Hardwood or Softwood decking?
It's not the hardness or softness of the wood that matters. Balsa wood is a hardwood! Softwood grows fast and is more porous and if left untreated will rot quickly, but tanalising it can make softwood decking last as long as some hardwood decking.
Hardwood decking is generally more expensive softwood decking costing £3,500 standard would cost £6,000 in Oak and £10,000 in Teak.
I can also offer environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives to timber decking.

Will I need planning permission to build decking in my garden landscaping  do I need planning

How much space will I need?
Multi level decking might look good, but is useless if the surface area is to small for family or guests to pull back there chairs, spread out a little without falling of the edge.

Working out a comfortable space is easy.
  • Position your patio table in the area to be landscaped.
  • Place chairs all around the table to calculate the minimum space you will need for dining
  • Pull the chairs back about 18" from the edge of the table and this is the room you will need to relax after dinner.
What type of decking boards ?

We mainly use two types of decking boards for decked areas, both make attractive sound and long lasting decking

Home-Grown decking boards are quicker grown, slightly bigger knots, 32mm thick. Less road miles, smaller carbon footprint.
